Please Take Your Shoes Off

This social project was a collaboration with “Tender Table.” Tender Table aims to celebrate a marginalized community through connection, storytelling, and food sharing.

“Please take your shoes off” was something my mom would say when guests would enter our home, when I was growing up. I used this phrase in this project to commemorate tradition and activate memory, as well as invite other to sit with me and share their memories. While we sat, my guests would share what they could remember of their child hood homes and I would draw based on what they would share.

The product of the of project was a collection of high contrast memory drawings and strangers that became friends.
